As adults, we question what books are good for our children. We can research new children's books or we can dig through our past and try to remember our favorites growing up. As a child, my favorite book was, and still is, "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" by Laura Numeroff and illustrated by Felicia Bond. According to Amazon.com, this book are for early readers between the ages of four and eight years old. The recommended grade level is preschool to third grade. This book has been in print since 1985. The book goes through a number of situations that starts off with giving a mouse a cookie. Continuously going through situations one by one starting with the cookie to milk and so on and so on. The book is very comical with the situations it brings up. The illustration done by Felicia Bond allows the reader to visualize what the book is stating. The comical situations comes through the artwork in the book. This is my favorite book because it was one of the first books I read to myself. This book made me want to read more. I believe I was in second grade when I first encountered this book. I had a very dramatic second-grade teacher. She made the book very interesting and it caught my attention. After being introduced to this book in my classroom, it was also on a popular television show for kids called the Reading Rainbow. The Reading Rainbow is a television show that only talked about literature for children. The Reading Rainbow’s ideal audience were children. It was on public broadcast channel. As a volunteer at Patterson Elementary School, I've witnessed teachers still reading this book to their classrooms. I've also seen a teacher play the Reading Rainbow episode about this book. As a child I did not know that this author and illustrator had numerous books similar to "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" With titles such as "If You Gave a Moose a Muffin", "If You Take a Mouse to School", "If You Give a Mouse a Party", etc. I would have read the whole series if I knew about these titles at a younger age. As a teacher, I will introduce to my class the whole collection of Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond.
